Stereotyping Revision
Stereotyping-
- Think of a stereotyped character in a film, a tv advert and a computer game and for each, identify how they are represented. Consider how they speak, how they dress, their body language, their relationships and their lifestyle.
Film- Kingsman Secret Service
The character "Eggsy" is a classical troubled teenager that lives in a flat in south London, he has no father figure in his house hold apart from his mothers boyfriend who he doesn't like. However "Eggsys" real father was a secret agent service called Kingsman and left a meddle that for "Eggsy" incase he ever was in trouble. "Eggsy" is a classical stereotype for a troubled teenager because of the way he dresses in a tracksuit and trainers with a cap and the way he speaks which is the usual south London accent, he acts towards people as if he doesn't care or as if he wants to get into trouble. His body language even shows this as he walks around tough. He has a loving relationship with his mother and sister but has a hate relationship with his mums boyfriend. His lifestyle is a not very fortunate as he doesn't have expensive items like a house, instead he lives in a flat.
TV Advert- John Lewis (Elton John's life Advert)
Elton john is represented as a talented young boy who gets a piano as a young boy. he doesn't speak in this advert instead the song "your song" is played throughout the advert as scenes from his life are shown. He his dressed in his Pyjamas as a young boy and then the rest of the advert in the outfits he would wear whilst performing. His body language is relaxed but he shows happiness at the end because his life's long dream has been fulfilled. His relationship with his parents as a young boy seemed be happy. finally his lifestyle was expensive as he could afford a piano when he was young so this implies that his family where wealthy, and as his career took off well therefore he has always been a wealthy man.

Audience Positioning-
- Think about the last film you watched. Can you apply the concept of the male gaze to the treatment of its female characters? Think about the female characters were portrayed via camera shots, how they dressed, how they behaved and how male characters interacted with them.
In this movie, There are retired extremely dangerous agents that used to be hired by MI7 and have now retired from the profession. They get marked down as RED which means RETIRED EXTREMLY DANGEROUS. This is because of the training they have had over the years and they are the best at their job and have never been beaten. The main male character meets a woman and because people are looking for him to kill him they now want to kill the woman as well so that it will be easier to get to the man. The female is the damsel in distress as the man always tries to save her when a "bad guy" tries to kill them. However as the story goes on more male characters come into the movie as RED agents too but unexpectedly another woman in the movie is part of this RED agents but she doesn't act like frightened or needs to be saved she works with the men and kills the "bad guys" to protect them self's and get a job done so they can clear their name with the authority as they as seen as dangerous because of the job they used to do. In this movie female characters are seen as the typical stereotypes where they always need to be saved and where they are strong and aren't afraid of anything that faces them.
