Bethany Platt-Coronation street
The common stereotypes for a "typical teenager is that they are very vulnerable and easily manipulated" This is shown in this character when her 'boyfriend', who she is madly in love with, uses her and sells her body off to his mates or clients so they can sexually abuse her. Bethany's mother was a teenage mum and was brought up in a disruptive family, therefore she wasn't brought up in the greatest of conditions and had only her mother when they moved to Milan. Bethany turned out to be disruptive and an unstable child as she grew up. When they moved back to the coronation street, Bethany enrolled at the local school and was bullied by a few girls and therefore became body cautious and felt unworthy, had low self of steam and a bad self image. Therefore this meant that Bethany was easy to be groomed by what ever guy that payed attention to her and made her feel special and beautiful. This links to the Cultivation theory as it reinforces that a typical teenager is most likely to be in trouble than doing well at school.

Nathan Curtis- Coronation street
Some males do believe that they can dominate woman, some stereotypes to support this are “men are more stronger and women are weak”. Therefore, this character is supporting this stereotype as he demands his ‘girlfriend’ to sleep with his friends so that he can get money off of them. However, his ‘girlfriend’ doesn’t realise this and does it for him because she ‘loves’ him and doesn’t realise what he is really doing. This character is sexually abusing his girlfriend and getting money for it as he’s taking advantage of her. This shows how strong and dominant men are over women as this character is using the girl’s low self-esteem and bad self-image against the girl like black mail so that she does everything he asks or tells her to do because she fears that he will leave him.
